This Sunday's Service Theme - Trust in the Name of the LORD!
Scriptures to read along with this message....
1 Samuel 17:4-11, 32-40, 45-49 (sermon verses) Goliath was defiant against the name of the LORD. The Israelites weren't trusting the LORD either. But David clearly knew whose name was most important!
Psalm 91 The Church sings Psalm 91 in services that focus on times of temptation or persecution crisis. Martin Luther said, "Psalm 91 is a psalm of comfort. It encourages us to trust God through all distress and affliction. It is full of rich, comforting promises derived from the First Commandment, "You shall have no other gods." It's the second psalm (after Psalm 34) in which the angels are proclaimed to be our guardians, which is comforting and good to note."
Hebrews 4:14-16 Jesus was tempted in every way - just like us - yet he was without sin. We can trust him as we pray to him!
Luke 4:1-13 Satan pulled out all the stops as he tempted Jesus. But our champion won! And that means we win as well.

Ash Wednesday, a day which marks the start of the season of Lent in the church year.
Lent is a slower, more solemn time in which we focus on repentance.
That means we slow down to think about our sins, and the terrible price we owe because of them...but also in which we think about our Savior Jesus Christ giving the ultimate act of love - his life and death in our place, so that we could be with him for eternity in heaven.

Exodus 34:29-35 To Whom Are You Listening? Moses came with the Ten Commandments. His face was reflecting the glory of the LORD, to whom he had been speaking!
Psalm 2 These verses describe Jesus as THE King of Kings and Lord of Lords. If worldly leaders know what's good for them, they'll honor him with humble respect!
2 Corinthians 4:3-6 To Whom Are You Listening? The god of this age - the devil - has blinded the minds of unbelievers. Don't fly through life blind! Listen to the truth. Listen to Jesus.
Luke 9:28-36 To Whom Are You Listening? After Jesus was transfigured, the disciples were in a mix of astonishment, confusion and fear. Then the Father's heavenly voice gave clarity. "This is my Son, whom I have chosen. Listen to him!"
